Avalanche kills one and injures 12 in Manaslu base camp
Kathmandu: An avalanche has occurred at the base camp of Gorkha’s Manaslu mountain.
District Police Office Gorkha SP Kedar Khanal informed that some tourists have gone missing due to a landslide at the Manaslu Himal base camp located in Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1.
The Department of Tourism has also confirmed the occurrence of avalanches. The foreigners who went climbing the Manaslu mountain and their Nepalese supporters are at the Manaslu base camp.
Simric Air’s 9 NT AJZ call sign helicopter has landed at the base camp to rescue tourists and another helicopter is in readiness for the rescue operation, according to Simric Air sources.
12 injured, and one dies
According to RSS, the climbers have gone to the base camp of Mt Manaslu from various companies including the Seven Summit Trek. DoT’s Mountaineering Section said 404 climbing teams of 38 expedition teams have taken permits for climbing Mt Manaslu in the autumn season.
A total of 506 mountaineers belonging to 58 expedition teams have acquired permission for climbing 15 mountains and peaks including Mt Everest and Mt Manaslu this autumn season.
Imagine Nepal Expeditions Pvt Ltd’s Rajendra Thakuri said that Climbing Assistant of Saturi Expeditions Pvt Ltd Anup Rai died in the avalanche around 12 noon on Monday.
