Medical Teams Deployed to Provide Health Care to Trekkers in the Himalayas

The Himalayan Rescue Association has dispatched medical teams to provide health care to local and foreign mountain trekkers at three different locations. The teams, which include volunteer doctors, will be stationed at Everest base camp and Feriche in Solukhumbu, and Manang village in Manang.

With the onset of the spring season, the medical teams have been tasked with setting up temporary health centers to provide specialized health services to domestic and foreign tourists who are going to climb the mountains. The association has deployed one foreigner and two Nepali doctors at Everest base camp, two foreigners and one Nepali doctor at Feriche, and two foreigners and one Nepali doctor at Manang village.

The association, which was established in 2030 to provide health services to tourists who go to climb mountains in spring and autumn, has been providing health care services to thousands of domestic and foreign climbers every year. According to the CEO of the association, Gobind Basyal, the medical teams will provide free health care to the domestic trekkers and a small fee to foreign trekkers.

The association only appoints doctors who are approved by the Nepal Medical Council and have received training in mountain medicine. The doctors who have been sent to the field have undergone extensive training to address the health problems that occur in mountainous areas, including high latitude sickness and other treatments.

According to Hari Dharel, the President of the association, Association has been providing health services since 1773 in Feriche, 1980 in Manang village, and 1997 in Gosaikund. The association has been actively working on placing hoarding boards, printing and distributing pamphlets, providing training to school and college students, and conducting training for tourist guides inform them about the high altitude sickness related matters.

In cooperation with stakeholders, the association has also been conducting the Clean Himal Campaign in collaboration with the Nepal Army.
