NMA demands management of additional 175 mountains
Kathmandu: Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has demanded that the government should allow NMA to manage additional 175 mountains in the country.
The association made the demand after meeting Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today. A team led by the association’s president Nimanuru Sherpa presented a three-point demand letter to the Prime Minister.
Praising the success and achievements of the association, the Prime Minister was positive about the demand, said Sherpa.
The association has also stated that if the responsibility for the management of these mountains is given, the publicity of the mountains will increase through the international organizations involved in mountaineering and it will help in the development of mountaineering tourism in Nepal.
The NMA has been managing 27 mountains for five years since 2075 BS. Of the salute fee collected from these mountains, 45 percent is used by the association and 55 percent by the government.
The association has demanded the Prime Minister to renew these mountains for another term of five years. The association has also urged the government to set up a fund to spend on the welfare of climbers.
