Mardi Himal trekking and mountaineering stressed
Pokhara: Mardi Himal is an important destination for trekking as well as mountaineering for the preservation of adventure tourism according to the opinion expressed by the participants of an interaction organized by Nepal Mountaineering Gandaki Chapter at international mountain museum in Pokhara.
The participants of the interaction program observed the pictures of the recent seven member expedition team to Mt Mardi Himal (5587m) and the expedition of 1961, which included the pictures of human settlement, beautiful landscape, flora, fauna, possibilities and challenges.
Speaking during the same program, the officiating secretary of Gandaki Province Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Ram Kaji Shrestha said that the provincial government is ready to support any sort of program related to adventure tourism.
Similarly, speaking in the interaction program, the Pokhara Tourism Council’s acting President Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai said that the history of Pokhara tourism had began with the ascent of Annapurna in the region.
He also stressed that instead of opening new roads, the adventure tourism should be given priority and the entry fee collected from the trekkers should be invested in the development of new destinations and local development.
Likewise, the member of mountain museum operation, Jiwan Sapkota said a profile of peaks should be maintained and concerned bodies should pay head to the state level tourism.
The expedition team coordinator Prem Gurung said that this trekking and expedition to Mt Mardi Himal could enable a trekker to see views of Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, Annapurna ranges, Himalchulli, Gandapurna, Gandharvachuli. That’s why the number of domestic and foreign tourists are increasing on this route.
